SCHOOL HISTORY

The birth of this institution was conceptualized by a collaborative efforts of people who wanted to put up a school. After brainstorming, collating materials, working out for documentation and braving pressures from all directions, with a very limited time due to their respective employments, they found a place to start with. Thus, Southern Philippines Institute of Science & Technology (SPIST) located at Tia Maria Building, Aguinaldo Highway, Anabu 2A, Imus, Cavite, was born on December 4, 1999.

The founders of this institution were experience professionals in their own field. One was a former school director, another hails from a mixture of teaching experiences both in public and private schools – a teacher by profession. Another one is an Industrial Education graduate with various experience in Information technology, then a licensed Chemical Engineer who ventured in the teaching profession and the last one is a business entrepreneur who supported the lump of financial burden. All of them put together made up a good combination of opening a college. Thus, in June 2000, twelve (12) bachelor programs under Commission on Higher Education(CHED) and five (5) technical programs under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) were started with two hundred eighty-five students as the initial enrollees. It proved that education is an essential factor in every Filipino’s life.

The following year, SPIST ventured into another undertaking – the Basic Education Department. It posed a dual purpose: first, to cater to the nearby residents who opt to send their children to a private school and second to serve as a laboratory school for the Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education courses. Surely the school prospered, guided by its Vision and Mission, and above all, by the Divine providence, who saw the sincerity and truthfulness of the founders. It was not an easy job but with firm determination, everything came into pace, day by day.

It is at this point that the Board of Trustees was formed and committed themselves to pursue excellence – the development of the innate multiple intelligences of the young so that they can be productive and useful members of society in their community and elsewhere in the world. Likewise, the school adopts the latest trends in technology, to make the students more competent in this fast-changing world. As the officers envisioned the school to become a builder of youth, competitive to the demands of industrialization and excellence of the New Millennium, so the Mission of the school was stated as much.

The SPIST’s history will never stop rather, it will run down the lane of time and as founders, administrators, students, and communities, this beautiful episode of time and grandeur of achievements will be remembered – only God knows the measure.
