HISTORY OF “DUGO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL”

In the early 1920’s informal education in Dugo as well as in the immediate neighboring barrios was held in the houses of some families whose ground floors or “sirok” as being termed in Ilocano dialect , more spacious enough to accommodate a class of 10,15 or more pupils.

However, as the number of pupils had been increasing as the years passed, the barrio folks with the initiative of the local leaders solicited the benevolence of the Mr. Gregorio Urbi, Mr. Manuel Pagaduan and Mr Antonio Ombania Families to donate a portion of their lots which are adjacent to each other at the southernmost part of barrio Dugo and a little portion of the northernmost part of Barrio Gang-ngo, now Gen. E. Batalla. At first it was still Dugo Primary School for it only centered Grades 1 to 4 learners then. The school has a land area of 20,000 sq. meters.

As it has always been the nature of the barrio folks to work together harmoniously for a common good some temporary nipa and bamboo buildings were put up in Bayanihan style. Later, in 1940, it became a complete elementary school and recognized with the name Dugo Community School.

Unfortunately, during the Japanese Occupation in (1943-1945) the Japanese soldiers used thevbSchool as their barracks and later burned the buildings and all records in it before they left.

After the liberation period in 1945, a permanent type of school building was built in the succeeding years, then later a study permanent type of home economics and an industrial arts building were also put-up.

As it was the only elementary school then in the southern part of the municipality where children from Cullit, Luec, Abagao,Tagum,Ziminila, Minanga, Casili, Bulala, Dacalla Fugu, Dammang now Felipe Tuzon, Bantay, Fusina, Gang-ngo now General E. Batalla,Jurisdiccion Camalaniugan, Jurisdiccion Lallo and Tuluttuging came to enroll in the school, it had a very big enrolment ,Even up to these days wherein there are only five feeder barangays left after the other have had their own elementary schools, Dugo Elementary School has remained to be the largest in population in the municipality and has maintained to be the effective and productive in academic and physical aspects as well. In reality, the school has been a two-time winner of the street dancing Competition during the 1st and 2nd Ananat Festival of 2012 and 2013. For it is with pride that during the 1st Ananat Festival that the former Principal II, Sharon A. Udarbe,Ph.D now the Barangay Captain of Dugo made it a point to win the competition and followed by the leadership of Clarita C, Salvador, Ph. D., Principal still made it for the second time. This is indeed a manifestation that Dugo Elementary School proves itself to be called champion.

During the resent school maying done , the school was named “ the Molder of Generals” The fast three brave (AFP) Armed Forces of the Philippines Generals was born in Dugo, Camalaniugan, Cagayan and considered Alumni of the well-known Dugo Elementary School, These Generals were once known to be a high and regard of morality, honesty and of the great server to the country were General Prospero Olivas, Gen Eduardo Batalla and Gen. Edgar Aglipay.

Indeed, no words can ever express fully the gratitude and indebtedness of the younger generation of pupils, parents, teachers and the whole community to the persons whose sweat and blood, aspirations , disappointments and signifies rolled up and mixed into one strong determination to establish, love, keep and sustain a beautiful and productive school, now Dugo Elementary School, whose role is to educate and develop the youth in the community to be god loving, responsible individuals and productive citizens not only in the locality but in the world.

Dugo Elementary School

At this point in time, I’d like to congratulate and acknowledge the tremendous success we’ve achieved! We’ve exceeded expectations at every step along the way. To be the first school of Camalaniugan District to successfully implement the School-Based Management (SBM) Practices is an achievement worthy of recognition and emulation.

I’d like to appreciate the efforts of the committed, dedicated and highly motivated team -our stakeholders, feeder barangays, teaching staff of Dugo Elementary School, for surpassing our goals for the school! I am consistently amazed by the kind of performance you had shown. It is incredible to see you all consistently pushing yourselves to the limit. Your hard work is turning into tangible outcomes for our team and the school. You really played a crucial role in the school’s success.

Thus, this school website is a living mantra of the kind of team I had. It gives me great pleasure and the earnest desire to move forward and to be on the lookout for new opportunities and to put these new things into use at every chance I get. KUDOS! More challenges are still ahead of us! As I always believe, “Dugo, where young minds Grow, always on the Go!
