Batanes State College is public school in Basco Batanes that offers free education in various degree programs and courses for College Students.

The Batanes State College has been granted the benefits of free tuition and miscellaneous fees for its qualified college students by the Unified Student Financial Assistance System (UNIFAST) per the provision of RA 10931, otherwise known as Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

It is mandated to provide collegiate level occupational, technological, and professional training in the fields of fishery, agriculture, environmental sciences, and other related fields of study. It is also mandated to provide special instruction for special purposes, promote research and extension services in the various disciplines and areas of specialization and provide progressive leadership in its areas of specialization. Its main campus is located in Basco, Batanes.

HISTORY OF THE “BATANES STATE COLLEGE”

The Batanes School of Arts and Trades was established in 1967 by virtue of R.A. No. 4009. It was opened on august 7, 1967 with an initial appropriation of php 250,000.00 permanent buildings were constructed out of the capital outlay duly appropriated by the national government.

In 1969-1971, the school was accredited to offer post secondary trade technical courses. Graduates of this course were confirmed with the title of associate in industrial technology.

The school opened the BSAT Annex in Uyugan in 1982. On august 22, 2000, the annex school was separated from the mother school and was converted to general comprehensive high school by virtue of R.A. No. 8854.

On March 1, 1995, the school was converted to Batanes Polytechnic College by virtue of R.A. No. 7921. The college indefinitely closed the non-ladderized courses and offered degree courses. On June 11, 2001, the college was granted full authority by the Regional TESDA office under TVET program to offer this two-year computer programming course.

On august 7, 2004, republic act no. 9314 converted the school into Batanes State College.
