Alinunu Elementary School

Alinunu Elementary School is a public institution in accredited by the Department of Education (DepED) that offers purely Elementary School for Kinder and Grade 1 to Grade 6. The Alinunu Elementary School is located in Barangay Alinunu at the Municipality of Abulug, Cagayan. The Department of Education supervises all elementary and secondary schools, both public and private.

Gathering the information from reliable and educated senior citizens of this community, the history of Alinunu Elementary School has been construed. Alinunu Community School offered formal education for Grade 1 in 1920. In 1921 to 1941, a combination class for Grade I and II was sustained. The pupils who finished Grade II enrolled at Sta. Filomena Community School up to Grade IV and went to Abulug Central School to finish their elementary education.

Like any other school in the country, it was closed at the onset of World War II. It re-opened single classes for Grades I and II and a combination class for Grades II and IV in 1946. In the S.Y. 1950-1951, Grade V was opened having pupils from Sta. Filomena, Dugo, Banguian, and Bagu as feeders. Grades III and IV remained to be a combination class. In the S.Y. 1951-1952, it became a compete elementary school and had its first Closing Exercises.

An additional teacher was granted to the school in 1965 by virtue of the extension positions created by the Bureau of Public Schools. Grade III and IV were segregated into single classes. From 1967-1972, there were two sections in the intermediate grades. Pupils coming from Dugo, Banguian, Sta. Filomena and Bagu came to enroll to this school. From 1973 hereon, the school maintained single classes for the intermediate because the above mentioned barangays opened a complete elementary school.

It is located near the boundary of Barangay Alinunu and Sta. Filomena with an area of One (1) hectare. The lot was donated by Mr. Canuto de Ocampo. However, there was no formal Deed of Donation. Up to the present, no heirs have claimed the lot for their personal share. The only legal document to support the ownership of the school lot is the Tax Declaration of the municipality.
