Historical Background

The Cavite College of Arts and Trades (CCAT) was established through Republic Act No. 5966, authored by Congressman Justiniano S. Montano, and approved on June 21, 1969. It was founded as a National College of Arts and Trades, primarily to provide higher technological, professional, occupational, and vocational education.

The college was inaugurated on August 8, 1970, and began regular classes for the Two-Year Trade Technical Curriculum on August 12, 1970, with an initial enrollment of 27 students.

From February 1971 to July 1972, CCAT served as a Training Center for the National Manpower Training Program and offered a Special One-Year Course. In 1973, the institution implemented the Secondary Trade Curriculum alongside the Two-Year Trade Technician Education under Department Order No. 20, s. 1973.

After five years of operation, CCAT was classified as a Teacher Education Institution in Industrial Education, with Arturo P. Casuga serving as Superintendent. In 1976, a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) unit was established.

In 1982, CCAT became a beneficiary of the Technical and Vocational Education Project (TVEP) funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It was later selected as a recipient of the Philippine–Australian Technical and Vocational Education Project (PATVEP) and served as the TVEP Research and Information Center for Region IV in 1983.

In 2001, CCAT was officially integrated into Cavite State University through CHED Memorandum No. 27, s. 2000. Dr. Maria C. Yaba was designated as Assistant to the CvSU President for CvSU–Rosario Campus operations. Following integration, additional academic programs were introduced, including BS in Business Management and Associate in Computer Technology.
