Don Aurelio Evangelista Memorial Elementary School (DAEMES) is a public institution accredited by the Department of Education (DepED) that offers Basic Education Curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade 6. The school is located in Barangay Bangan Oda at the Municipality of Agno, in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines.

The Don Aurelio Evangelista Memorial Elementary School (DAEMES), formerly called “Bangan –Oda Elementary School “was founded in the 1920s, situated in a lot near a swamp with an area of 4,005 sq. meters. The said lot was donated in the year 1925 by Don Aurelio Evangelista, former Mayor of Agno, who owned a large area of land in Barangay Bangan – Oda. The school, first building were an eight-room Gabaldon Building and a two-room bamboo-nipa structure which the old folks called camarin. After some years, PTA Officials of Bangan –Oda Elementary School Purchased a lot with an area of 6,481 sq. meters from Mr. Insiong Prado in their desire to make the school area bigger.

Issues about ownership of land surpassed when in 1970s the RP-US Building (a national project) was about to built and so that it would be purchased , agreement between the heirs and PTA was made. The PTA promised to pay Dona Asuncion, the amount for the lot which not a part of that donated by her spouse, Don Aurelio. Unfortunately, the PTA had no capacity to pay then so Dona Asuncion referred the matter to the Barangay Captain Domingo Quodala. Later, she brought the matter in court. She filed a complaint against the municipality of Agno with the heirs of Evangelista as plaintiffs.

After a series of hearings, the Regional Trial Court Branch XIII with the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Atty. A.S. Braga, had come up with a decision on February 5, 1975, thus ….”….the plaintiffs are ordered to execute the corresponding deed of donation… that the defendant have to pay the plaintiff representing the reimbursement of the travelling expenses…. And that the defendant is hereby ordered to change the name of the Bangan-Oda Elementary School to Don Aurelio Evangelista Memorial Elementary School….”

So, the name DON AURELIO EVANGELISTA MEMORIAL ELEMETARY SCHOOL was used since then. A bust of Don Aurelio Evangelista was also installed in front of the school. It was built at the center part of the stage under the mango tree along the concrete fence.
